“Based on a Kitchen Utensil with Challenging Movements, How Can I Make the Utensil Less Strenuous and More Attractive for Users with Reduced Motoric Coordination?”

GarliCut – Garlic cutter developed with focus on elder people and rheumatism patients.
GarliCut is a user centered design project in collaboration with Nofima, one of the largest institutes for applied food research in Europe. The project revolves about eating/kitchen utensils and elder people.
The traditional garlic press has a large problem area. Strength, balance and cleaning are central issues. Some people often skip garlic when cooking because of this. GarliCut is designed by focusing on these issues. The product is developed to invite and include garlic more when cooking –which leads to new explorations and experiences.
The cutter uses the strength from the torso to cut through the garlic cloves. Other features are easy cleaning, silicone ring for cutting straight into a warm frying pan and tracks for right assembly between the knife net and cube net.
